Calculations are based on the nominal size of the box. The measured internal dimensions are shown with “approx.”; if they are slightly smaller than your goods, the box is marked “tight”. Manufacturing tolerances of a few millimetres are possible. Rotating the goods is taken into account. “Reduced” means the box has a height crease and can be folded down to this height. Unit prices as shown in the shop; the price in the cart applies.
Empty space is the portion of the box’s interior that your goods do not fill; padding and air count as empty space. We calculate this based on the measured interior dimensions (using the reduced height for boxes with height creases) and, for shipping envelopes, based on the space the envelope creates around your goods. This is a guideline; it is not a guaranteed characteristic. The EU Packaging Directive (PPWR, Art. 24) limits the void space in shipping and outer packaging to a maximum of 50% starting no earlier than 2030; the exact calculation method is still to be determined by the European Commission.
The classification according to the package sizes of DHL, Hermes, DPD, and GLS, as well as the letter sizes of Deutsche Post, is a guideline based on the estimated external dimensions of the empty box and is not a guaranteed characteristic. Please check the dimensions and weight of your packed box yourself before shipping; the carrier’s current terms and conditions apply. The specified volume is for informational purposes only: Depending on their contracts, some carriers charge for large, lightweight packages based on volumetric weight or impose surcharges for bulky packages. Where we are aware of a surcharge, the note “Surcharge possible” will appear on the box.
E-flute, B-flute, or C-flute: Which single-wall corrugated board is right for you?
Single-wall corrugated board features a single fluted layer between two linerboards. It is lighter and thinner than double-wall corrugated board and is sufficient for most parcel shipments. Which flute is suitable depends primarily on the weight and format of the goods.
| Flute | Thickness approx. | Load capacity approx.* | Lengths in the range | Typical for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| E | 1.5 mm | usually 10 kg | 130–565 mm | flat, light shipments; many with crash-lock bottom or self-adhesive closure |
| B | 3 mm | usually 20 kg | 100–1,050 mm | standard for parcel shipping, also long boxes and boxes with white exteriors |
| C | 4 mm | 20–25 kg | 370–1,100 mm | larger and heavier formats, more cushioning |

Three format groups
Flat cardboard boxes
A good 30 cardboard boxes have an internal height of at most 110 mm, with lengths from 130 to 610 mm. They are suitable for flat goods such as books, textiles, or documents and save volume in the parcel. About a third of these are made of E-flute, with the rest mostly made of B-flute.
Standard formats
Around 70 cardboard boxes with internal heights from 120 to 700 mm, from small formats under 300 mm in length to large cardboard boxes over 500 mm. Over 30 single-wall cardboard boxes feature height creasing, allowing you to adjust the height to match your goods: cardboard boxes with variable height.
Long cardboard boxes
14 cardboard boxes with a square base area from 100 × 100 to 280 × 280 mm and an internal height of 800 to around 1,200 mm, all in B-flute. They are suitable for long, narrow goods, such as posters, rods, tubes, or umbrellas.
Crash-lock bottom, self-adhesive closure, and white cardboard boxes
Five single-wall boxes made of E-flute have a crash-lock bottom (FEFCO 0703): When the box is opened, the bottom folds out on its own. Boxes with self-adhesive closures are available in E-flute and B-flute; some have two adhesive strips, allowing the box to be resealed a second time for returns. Six sizes have a white exterior. In addition, there are cardboard boxes (FEFCO 0426, and 0427) and two slip-on boxes consisting of a base and a lid. In the box finder, you can filter by “with self-adhesive closure” and “white.” Available options: boxes with crash-lock bottoms.
Single-wall cardboard boxes with logo
All single-wall boxes are also available printed: with your logo in digital printing and upon request with the material specifications for labelling according to the EU Packaging Regulation (PPWR). To choose from: single-wall printed boxes.
Frequently asked questions about single-wall cardboard boxes
Is a single-wall cardboard box sufficient for parcel shipping?
For most package shipments, yes: Boxes made of B-flute typically hold about 20 kg, C-flute boxes hold 20 to 25 kg, and E-flute boxes typically hold about 10 kg. For heavier goods, large items, or shipments on pallets, use double-wall boxes: double-wall cardboard.
When should I use E-flute instead of B-flute?
When the goods are light and flat and the cardboard box should take up little space. At approximately 1.5 mm, E-flute is half as thick as B-flute and has a smoother surface. For goods weighing over approx. 10 kg, use B- or C-flute.
Are the dimensions internal or external dimensions?
The dimension in the article name is the nominal dimension. The exact internal dimensions can be found on the article under "Data at a glance"; for about every third single-wall cardboard box, they are below the nominal dimension, mostly by 5 to 15 mm, and for large formats by up to 30 mm. Depending on the flute, the external dimensions are a few millimetres larger than the internal dimensions.
Are there long cardboard boxes for posters or rods?
Yes, 14 single-wall cardboard boxes have an internal height of 800 to around 1,200 mm, with a square base area of 100 × 100 to 280 × 280 mm.
Are there single-wall cardboard boxes in white?
Yes, six formats are white on the outside, with some brown on the inside. You can find them in the Box Finder using the "white" filter.
How many cardboard boxes are in a parcel?
Depending on the format, 10 to 400 pieces. The exact quantity can be found on the article under "Quantity per parcel", and the pallet quantity under "Quantity per pallet".
