Height = thickness of the folded item. The flap of the mailing bag always comes on top and is not counted.

- Based on the usable dimensions of the bag from our data sheets: width × length up to the opening. The flap is not included.
- The height of your garment requires space in both width and length in a flat bag. For bags with side gussets or a stand-up bottom, the garment can instead be placed inside the gusset. For bags with side and bottom gussets (KRAFTMAILER), the bottom gusset also opens up; in this case, we include half the height of your garment in the length measurement.
- Add to that your chosen allowance on each side (10–30 mm) so that the bag can be sealed neatly. For zippers, sliders, and bags without a closure, we allow an additional 20–40 mm for the closure.
- We only display tall items (over 80 mm, or over 30 mm and taller than 30% of the shorter side) in bags with side gussets or a stand-up bottom. Otherwise, there would be too much loose material around the item in flat bags. If none of these fit, our box finder can help.
- "Tight" means: it fits with only 10 mm of space. Padded bags (WAVEMAILER) are slightly tighter on the inside.
- Empty space is the portion of the bag that your item does not fill; this includes air. We estimate the volume of a bag: It wraps around your item; for a flat calculation, we use (width − height) × (length − height − closure) × height; for bags with a side gusset or stand-up bottom, we use width × (length − closure) × height; for bags with both a side gusset and a bottom gusset, we use width × (length − ½ height − closure) × height. This is a guideline only; it is not a guaranteed specification. The EU Packaging Directive (PPWR, Art. 24) limits the empty space in shipping and outer packaging to a maximum of 50% starting no earlier than 2030; the exact calculation method is still to be determined by the European Commission.

1. Folding
- Fold the item exactly as it will later go into the packaging – much like on a retail shelf.
- Fold the sleeves back, and fold trousers once lengthways and then crossways.
- Several items in one bag? Then measure the entire stack.
2. Measuring
- Measure length and width of the item lying flat.
- Height is the thickness at the thickest point – collars, buttons and zips are included.
- Press down gently, but do not compress: This is how the item will sit in the bag later.
3. Choosing correctly
- Shipping: opaque mailing bags; with a second adhesive strip also suitable for returns.
- Outer packaging: transparent for visual inspection or paper for a plastic-free appearance.
- Storage: resealable bags with a zipper or slider.
